Taxation & Financial Advice - BM Networks

BM Networks is a small, service-based business based out of Tauranga. Run by Bobby Mules, the firm works alongside cybersecurity companies to meet the growing demand for experienced network engineering and consulting contractors.

Complex Annual Accounts and Overseas Tax Returns with Ake Accounting

Bobby Mules reached out to Ake Accounting in 2020, having relocated his family from the United Kingdom at the height of the pandemic. Originally from New Zealand, Bobby had honed his trade at the EBOP Regional Council and Vodafone but had called the UK home since 2012. And, while he was no stranger to operating as a contractor for larger businesses, the change from one taxation system to another wasn’t without its challenges.

Like many freelancers, contractors and sole traders who move to New Zealand, Bobby needed clarification on the differences between the NZ and UK tax systems. Wisely, he sought our input, looking for the best way to kickstart his new chapter as a Kiwi contractor.

We worked closely with Bobby to gain an understanding of his current situation, what he wants to achieve in the future, and what the path may look like between those two points. We discussed the various options available to those starting their own business and explained the tax brackets and GST obligations he would need to be aware of.

After balancing his options, Bobby chose to establish BM Networks, a limited company that would offer him the flexibility and security to run his business with confidence, with room to grow should he choose to. Bobby left our session with a roadmap for the future and clearly defined objectives to help strengthen his financial position.

Matt and the team at Ake have provided me with outstanding support ever since moving back from the UK and starting a new business here in NZ. Their professionalism and attention to detail are what impresses the most. Can't recommend them enough.
